AT&T ZERO Charger FAQs

Q. I already have a charger. Why should I buy this one?

A. In addition to being energy-efficient, the AT&T ZERO Charger is almost universal. It's compatible with most USB charging cables, which means you can charge handsets, iPods, MP3 players, BLUETOOTH headsets, and portable gaming devices. And, you can charge almost all your devices from one outlet.

Q. How is the AT&T ZERO Charger so widely compatible?

A. It's equipped with a USB port that's compatible with the USB charging cable of most devices.

Q. Can I use the AT&T ZERO Charger to charge my digital camera?

A. Probably. If your digital camera is charged by a USB cable, it can be charged by the AT&T ZERO Charger.

Q. Can I connect a netbook to the AT&T ZERO Charger?

A. No. The AT&T ZERO Charger can only provide power to smaller portable devices.

Q. Can I use the AT&T ZERO Charger with my other handsets (AT&T and non-AT&T)?

A. Probably. If your handset is charged by a USB cable, it can be powered by the AT&T ZERO Charger.

Q. Will the current line of data cables work with the AT&T ZERO Charger?

A. Maybe. We are not formally listing them as compatible, but many users may find that the data cables we currently sell will also work with the charger.

Q. My phone did not come with a USB cable. Can I still use the AT&T ZERO Charger?

A. Most of the time. All you need is a compatible USB charging cable, which is sold separately or sometimes bundled with a charger. And remember, a single charging cable can be used to charge several different devices as long as they have the same charging port.

Q. The AT&T ZERO Charger is not made by my phone's manufacturer. Can I still use it?

A. Yes, it's fine as long as your phone is compatible.

Q. What doesn't the ZERO Charger work with?

A. It does not work with current Nokia phones. Nokia phones require a higher power draw than is provided by the AT&T ZERO Charger. We are working with Nokia on future products to ensure that they will be compatible in the future. There are also occasional variations in micro-charger phones. When those incompatibilities are identified, we immediately begin working with the manufacturer to make a correction to the phone.

Q. Why should I buy the AT&T ZERO Charger when I can get a cheaper one from somewhere else?

A. Cheaper chargers can damage your phone, battery or both. AT&T guarantees the AT&T ZERO Charger won't cause any damage and is backed by a one-year warranty.

Q. How does the ZERO Charger work?

A. A small, rechargeable battery in the ZERO Charger operates a sensor that determines if a device is attached or not; then it turns the charger on or off as needed. Most chargers have to use electricity to keep that sensor on all the time.

Q. Why is there a hesitation when the charger is turning on and off?

A. The internal sensor detects if there is a device attached, or if that device has been removed. Once that is determined, the LED will change but it usually takes a second or two. This is normal.

Q. What is "vampire" draw?

A. Vampire draw is when a charger remains in a wall, with no device attached, but keeps drawing electricity. Almost everything in your plugged-in phone is drawing power - the ZERO Charger makes sure that the power disconnects as soon as the phone does.

Q. Where are the old chargers going?

A. With the introduction of the AT&T ZERO Charger we will be discontinuing the current wall charger lineup - with the exception of Nokia chargers.

Q. How do you recycle this product?

A. Because the sensor is run from a rechargeable battery, the ZERO Charger should be recycled like a battery.

Q. Why are some chargers bundled with cables but some have to be sold separately?

A. To save space in stores. Our most popular chargers - Apple and Micro-USB - are bundled for ease of sale. The other charger cables are sold separately. But the cost is the same regardless - a charger and a single cable are $29.98 and each bundle is $29.99.

Q. Many USB chargers are not made by my phone's manufacturer. Can we still use them?

A. Yes, it's fine as long as the phone is compatible. AT&T carefully checks all after-market chargers for compatibility with our phones.

Q. How come you no longer carry iGo?

A. iGo has been a great product but with the introduction of the AT&T ZERO Charger, we are able to provide a custom solution for our customers across most of the product line. But iGo is not going away completely - the Charge Anywhere, with two USB ports, also has an integrated battery backup and is a great iGo product that will work with our new line of charging cables!
