att.net FAQs

What is att.net?
att.net is the Mobile Web browser for your AT&T phone.

What content will I find browsing with att.net?
att.net allows you to access the real Web by searching keywords or entering a Web site URL. You can also browse popular Web content like news stories, sports scores, social networking sites, email and more.

How do I add Shortcuts?
att.net makes it easy for you to add Shortcuts right on your homepage. Just select one of the recommended Shortcuts like Find Friends or Track a Team from the Web tab. You can also see more recommended Shortcuts by selecting Add More.

What pricing options are available for the Mobile Web?
You may pay as you go at a cost of $2 per MB or, for the best value, sign up for a money-saving Data Unlimited plan that also includes unlimited Mobile Video.

Will I be able to access every site on the Web?
Although you may enter any URL, not all Web sites are formatted for mobile devices.

Will I be able to download files from the Internet to att.net-enabled phones?

Will I be able to receive calls and text messages while browsing the Web with att.net?
Yes. If you receive a call or message while you are using att.net, you will be prompted to accept or refuse the call or message. If you accept a call or message, your att.net session will be suspended. Once you end the call or finish reading your message, you will be prompted to resume your att.net session and pick up where you left off. You may place calls by exiting the session.

How do I operate Parental Controls?
From the att.net homepage:

  • Select My Account
  • Select Parental Controls

You'll see the current settings for the Purchase Blocker and Content Filter (the defaults for both are off) and the option to change those settings.

If it's your first visit, you will be prompted to set a PIN code and enter your email address. If you've used Parental Controls before, you’ll need to enter your previously established PIN code, and then choose Change Settings.

Select or check the Content Filter box if you want to block AT&T-offered content that may be considered inappropriate for children or all access to the broader mobile Web.

Select the Purchase Blocker box if you want to block your phone's ability to buy additional content that is billed directly to your wireless invoice (such as ringtones or games).

If you prefer, you may call Customer Care at 1-800-331-0500 (or 611 from your wireless phone) and they will be happy to set up your PIN and preferences.

Will I be charged for Parental Controls?
Parental Controls are available for free on compatible phones. The only charge is for data usage when you change the settings. For example, when you turn the Purchase Blocker from off to on you will incur a small charge (typically less than $0.25). If you call Customer Care at 1-800-331-0500 (or 611 from your wireless phone) to change your settings, there is no charge.

How many AT&T customers will be able to use Parental Controls?
Parental Controls will be available automatically to approximately 30 million AT&T customers who have data-enabled handsets. Parental Controls are included as part of the att.net service.

If AT&T doesn't offer adult content, why would anyone want to turn on the Content Filter and block access to some att.net? What att.net content might need to be blocked?
AT&T does not offer content that is obscene or pornographic in nature, but there is some att.net content that may not be appropriate for those under age 18—like chat and dating sites—that the Content Filter will block when turned on.

How does AT&T decide what content is blocked when the Content Filter is turned on? What are the criteria?
AT&T has an internal content review process to decide what type of content will be blocked by the Content Filter. We also work with industry leader CTIA to develop content ratings, which may be used in conjunction with Parental Controls in the future.

Am I using my Voice plan’s minutes when I access the Mobile Web?
No. Web access is only billed for usage at a rate of $2 per MB. Or, with an unlimited data package, you pay a flat monthly rate for unlimited usage.

How do Mobile Web usage charges appear on my bill?
att.net usage charges will appear on your bill in the Call Detail section as Data Volume charges with a feature description of data.

Will I pay roaming fees when using the Mobile Web outside of my calling area?
No. When using att.net outside of your coverage area, you won’t be charged roaming fees for GPRS usage.

How is Mobile Web usage billed?
Pay-per-use customers are billed for att.net usage in megabytes (MBs). Customers with Data Unlimited are billed a flat monthly rate.

What are megabytes and kilobytes?
Megabytes (MB) and kilobytes (KB) are standard units of measure for data sent and received. Pay-per-use users are billed for att.net usage based on megabytes used.
