Technology

BroadbandConnect is AT&T's 3G network operating on the worldwide standard for wide-area wireless data communication. This is based on the Global Systems for Mobile Communications (GSM™). It's the first widely available service in the world to use HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) and is the only 3G technology that natively supports simultaneous voice and data.

Broadband speeds

BroadbandConnect provides average mobile data connections between 400-700 Kbps with bursts up to more than a mega-bit per second. It delivers about ten times the speed of dial-up Internet access.

National wireless coverage

BroadbandConnect supercharges the AT&T EDGE network that's available in 13,000 cities and towns and along almost 40,000 miles of U.S. highways. That means if you're in a BroadbandConnect coverage areas, you'll enjoy fast broadband speeds.

Protecting sensitive information

Sophisticated security features built into BroadbandConnect help protect office networks and data files including:

  • Protection of user identities
  • Protection of IP addresses
  • Protection of data transmitted

The system verifies the AT&T SIM (Subscriber Identification Module) card in the BroadbandConnect device before allowing it onto the network. Data transmissions are encrypted over the air all the way to the AT&T data center, helping to keep critical information safe. AT&T also has strategic alliances with the leading VPN providers, including Check Point™, Cisco Systems®, and Nortel Networks, that provide best practices for end-to-end data security.*
