You finished sixth earlier this year at Charlotte. What are your thoughts on this weekend’s race?
“Charlotte is a race track that requires patience and rhythm and, typically, that’s when we perform our best. It’ss a track that’s sensitive to temperature but for this race, you don’t go through as big of a transition as you do from day to night in the spring race. This race is shorter so you don’t have a big change from the start of the race to the end of the race. We learned a lot when we tested at Charlotte a couple of weeks ago so, based on that, we’re looking forward to this weekend’s race.”
Do you think you are flying under the radar as a championship contender?
“There is no question that the guys that are in the front right now have shown the most strength up to this point. There is also no question that is not always going to be the same. The trophy and the check are not given until the last race. If they gave it prior to the Chase, they would have just given it to Kyle Busch. A lot is going to happen over these next six weeks. Everyone has a tremendous amount of confidence in their team. It only takes one mistake, one bad pit stop, one engine problem or one bad race where you don’t run well to completely change the rules. It is what it is. There is not a team in the Chase, nor is there a team in the field, that is immune to having bad races. At the same time, there is not a team in the Chase that isn’t capable of winning the championship. After the first week, a lot of people stood up and declared Matt Kenseth ineligible. I got news for you, he can win. So, I wouldn’t be writing the checks just yet.”
