AT&T Voicemail Security

Protecting your voicemail

AT&T is committed to providing secure access to your voicemail, and wants to remind you that you can further protect the privacy of your voicemail by turning on the password feature. While your mailbox may currently have the password feature turned off to allow for fast access to voicemail from your wireless phone (pressing and holding the “1” will take you into your mailbox), it is easy to establish or reset a password, and turn it on.

Your voicemail password can be any random 4– to 15–digit number, although we strongly recommend you avoid using the last four digits of your mobile or your complete mobile number. We also recommend that you change your password periodically, and if you ever need to reset your voicemail password, that you change it immediately from the temporary one sent to you.

To further protect the privacy of your voicemail account, create a password and turn on your password feature with the following two steps:

  1. Establish or Change your password
    • Call your voicemail box from your wireless phone by pressing and holding "1".
    • If you have new messages, press the star key (*) to get to the voicemail Main Menu, then follow the steps below.

      At the Main Menu:

      • Press 2 for Administrative Options
      • Press 1 for Passwords
      • Press 1 again to Establish or Change Passwords and enter a new 4– to 15–digit password

  2. Enable a password for your wireless device
    • Call your voicemail box from your wireless phone by pressing and holding "1".
    • If you have new messages, press the star key (*) to get to the voicemail Main Menu, then follow the steps below.
