AT&T Voice DNA® Administrator Support

Manage Site Survivability

Overview

Site survivability is an AT&T Voice DNA® feature that provides voice service continuity when a location loses its connection to the AT&T Voice DNA network. As an AT&T Voice DNA Administrator, you can edit a location's site survivability settings.

With site survivability, you can continue to make and receive calls within your Voice DNA location and can make limited outbound calls when your location has lost connectivity to the AT&T Voice DNA network.

About Site Survivability

The following scenario describes how the site survivability feature enables users at a location to make outgoing calls in the event of a network access failure.

If your AT&T Voice DNA location adapter detects a network access failure, it goes into "survivability mode." If a location user makes an outbound call, AT&T Voice DNA redirects the call to a traditional phone line attached to the location adapter port or to a PRI (primary rate interface) trunk. The traditional phone line can support only one call at a time. The number of calls supported on the PRI trunk depends on your PRI circuit. Calls to 911 emergency services take priority and interrupt any other call, except for another 911 call in progress. Users can call other AT&T Voice DNA extensions within the location, but they can't use other features, such as call forwarding. When the location adapter detects the AT&T Voice DNA network is again functioning properly, it returns to "normal mode."

In survivability mode, the only way your location can receive an incoming call is through the traditional phone line or PRI trunk phone numbers. The location adapter is configured with a phone number called the "routing number," which is an AT&T Voice DNA phone number for that location. In survivability mode, calls to the traditional line's phone number are forwarded to the routing number via the location adapter. If you have a PRI trunk, you will need to map a VDNA destination number to every phone number associated with the PRI trunk group. You must assign the routing number to a user with a phone, so that someone can answer incoming calls to that number. (For information about assigning a phone number to a user, see Editing User Profiles.) When a location is first set up for site survivability, the default routing number is assigned to the first phone number in the location's number range. There's no default set up for the PRI trunk. You can change it later.

Site survivability can be complemented by use of the AT&T Voice DNA Call Forward Unreachable service. AT&T Voice DNA provides for a call forward setting for when a user's number can't be reached by the network (such as during a local site power outage). This feature is set per user on the User's Locate Me Settings page, and it's usually set to a mobile phone number or other number not at the AT&T Voice DNA location. For details, see Manage Locate Me Settings.

Site Survivability Requirements

Site survivability is an optional AT&T Voice DNA location feature. To use the site survivability functionality, a location must have:

  • Traditional phone lines or PRI (primary rate interface) trunks connected to a port on the location adapter. (The type of lines you use depends on the equipment you purchased with your AT&T Voice DNA service.)
  • Three-way calling activated on the location's traditional phone line.

View a Location's Equipment Settings

From the Equipment tab on the Location Details page, you can view details for all the provisioned equipment for a specific location.

To view a location's equipment settings

  1. Open the AT&T Voice DNA® Administrator Dashboard. (For more information, see Log In.)
  2. In the Locations tile, click View List of all Locations. The Locations page appears.
  3. In the row of the location you want to edit, under Actions, click the Edit Location Details icon. The Location Details page appears, with the Profile tab selected.
  4. To view the current location adapter settings, click the Equipment tab.

Edit a Location's FXO Port Settings

An FXO (foreign exchange office) port receives power and signals when your primary (local) site is not available. You can edit a location's site survivability FXO port and routing number from the AT&T Voice DNA® Administrator Dashboard. The FXO ports connect to traditional phone lines. Set the default FXO routing number to the location's default calling number (DCN).

To edit FXO port settings

  1. Open the AT&T Voice DNA Administrator Dashboard. (For more information, see Log In.)
  2. In the Locations tile, click View List of all Locations. The Locations page appears.
  3. Click the Equipment tab, and then click Edit Site Survivability Settings.
  4. Click Manage FXO port settings. The Manage FXO Port Settings page appears.
  5. Under Enable, check the port you want, and then enter the routing number (required). You must assign the routing number to a user with a phone (so that someone can answer incoming calls to the routing number). To assign a phone number to a user, see Manage User Profiles.
  6. To disable the FXO port, uncheck all ports.

  1. To save the new settings, click Save. To keep the existing configuration, click Cancel.
  2. To configure the new port settings or routing number, reboot the location adapter. If you can't do this yourself, be sure to notify someone who can.

Note: Rebooting should only take a few moments. Be aware that rebooting disrupts all incoming and outgoing calls through this location adapter, not just calls from those users whose non-IP phones are directly connected to the location adapter's phone ports.

Edit a Location's PRI Port Settings

If your device has primary rate interface (PRI) capabilities, you can view and map PRI DID (PRI Direct Inward Dial) numbers to AT&T Voice DNA® phone numbers for site survivability support. You can map only full phone numbers to existing numbers at current location; you can't map to extensions. You can add up to 100 pairs of mapped PRI DID and AT&T Voice DNA numbers. You can map a PRI DID number to only one AT&T Voice DNA number, but you can map multiple PRI DID numbers to the same AT&T Voice DNA number. You can also delete mappings and download the mapping list to a comma-separated values (CSV) file.

There's no default mapping for PRI DID numbers, so if you don't define a PRI to AT&T Voice DNA number mapping and a call comes in to the device over the PRI, the call won't connect.

To view or edit PRI port settings

  1. Open the AT&T Voice DNA Administrator Dashboard. (For more information, see Log In.)
  2. In the Locations tile, click View List of all Locations. The Locations page appears.
  3. Click the Equipment, and then click Edit Site Survivability Settings.
  4. Click Manage PRI port settings. The Manage PRI Port Settings page appears.

  1. To change ports, click Edit, select a different port, and then click Save.
  2. To save a copy of the PRI number mappings, click Save to text file. In the window that opens, click Save.

To add PRI DID-to-VDNA number mappings

  1. Open the AT&T Voice DNA Administrator Dashboard. (For more information, see Log In.)
  2. In the Locations tile, click View List of all Locations. The Locations page appears.
  3. Click the Equipment tab, click Edit Site Survivability Settings, and then click Manage PRI port settings.
  4. On the Manage PRI Port Settings page that appears, click Add Mapping.

Note: If you've reached the limit of provisioned mappings, the Add Mapping option won't be available. To make room for more mappings, you can delete current mappings.
  5. To add a single mapping, click Add Single Mapping, and then do the following:
    • Enter a number in the PRI DID number field.
    • Under VDNA Destination Number, click Find Number, and then select a number from the list that appears.
    • Repeat for each number map that you want to add.

  6. To add a mapping range, click Add Mapping Range. The Add Mapping Range window opens
  7. In the From Number field, enter the entire number, and then enter the ending numbers in the To Number field.
  8. Select the AT&T Voice DNA destination number from the list. The selected number appears in the VDNA Destination Number field. If you want to change the number, click Change Number and select a different number from the list.
  9. Click Add.

  1. To save the mappings, click Save.
  2. To configure the new PRI DID to AT&T Voice DNA number mappings, reboot the location adapter. If you can't do this yourself, be sure to notify someone who can.

Note: Rebooting should take only a few moments. Be aware that rebooting disrupts all incoming and outgoing calls through this location adapter, not just calls from users whose non-IP phones are directly connected to the location adapter's phone ports.

When adding a range, if any errors are found (for example, if an AT&T Voice DNA number is not valid), no changes are saved, an error message appears, and the fields causing the error are highlighted.
